Contact Energy
Size: 20 template pages, to be built into a 250-page site
My professional status: employee at Origin Design
Website client: Contact Energy
Dates: January - July 2001
Categories: Website designer, Front-end developer, Writing for the web, jQuery/JavaScript, Old-school table layout, Database-driven (pre-CMS), E-commerce, Large sites
Brief: to build a series of templates for the Contact site, which were then programmed into a fully interactive, database-driven site. To develop and build a style guide website to be used by Contact for maintenance and development.
My responsibilities included:
- Building templates for pages (architecture, navigation, HTML, DHTML, content layout, graphics), and liaising with the programmers at Contact
- Advising Origin designers on the technical aspects of the site, working with both teams to ensure that the site was delivered as a fully functional set of templates
- Developing and building a companion Style Guide site, to facilitate future updates
- Overseeing the creation of changeout headers and graphics for the site, integrating these and delivering them to the client - and preparing a full set of Photoshop masters.
This was a fully interactive site, so it was vital that the HTML was of the highest possible standard, and worked 100% of the time in every browser, and on every platform. The page structure was complex, with large amounts of information having to be fitted into small spaces - it was a web developer's dream - challenging and painstaking at the same time.
