Brief: to build two new websites - for the School of Economics & Finance and the School of Business & Public Management for Victoria University, Wellington. To follow the design created by Mission Hall, and including features introduced for the Graduate School site. The websites were to be structured in exactly the same way, so that the majority of each site could be converted to database-driven pages.
My responsibilities included:
- Building sites (architecture, navigation, HTML, JavaScript, content layout, popup navigation system)
- Building templates for pages which would become part of the (Visual Basic) web-based publishing solution designed for use by VUW staff, and liaising with the programmers at Toolbox
- Ensuring that every aspect of each site was fully interchangeable with the other - so enabling the VB programming to be repeated for both sites
- Liaison with client, designer and programmers
- Testing site thoroughly for browser compatibility on Mac and PC, and including a range of monitors sizes and resolutions.
As with my previous work for Mission Hall, there was a tight deadline - less than a week to get both sites ready for the programmers. Both sites were partially built when I took over, and the original designer was overseas, so the development process (with accompanying detective work) was quite interesting....
