G2000 documentary
Roles: Producer, fundraiser
After a break of two years, director Kylie Plunkett and I decided to make another documentary. I entered the TV3 Pitching Competition at the NZ Film and Television Conference, and with the help of my editor friend Dave Joyce I made a 5-minute showreel to go with my presentation, using footage from the first documentary.I won first prize of $6,000, which we used to fund the production, together with the $2,000 we had made selling copies of the first doco. The Gathering 97/98 documentary
Roles: Producer, assistant editor, film tour organiser
Two weeks before the start of The Gathering 97/98, I decided to make a documentary of the event. It would never have been made without my old friend Kylie Plunkett. She took the idea and ran with it, spending many hours of her own time editing it after the event. We put together a team of TV and film friends, borrowed a Beta SP camera from Rocket Rentals, and I produced the documentary, which premiered to a packed house at the Wellington Short Film Fringe Festival the following July. Promo videos
Roles: Producer, director, coordinator, assistant editor
I've collaborated on a number of promotional videos with various people over the years. It seemed a natural thing to do, as we have almost always filmed the large events we've organised.World Without Strangers, ONE, and Omnivore have all benefitted from promo videos made with footage from other events, as well as videos made specifically for use during those shows. Footage from The Gathering 97/98 documentary has also been used in many TV programmes since it was made. Find out more about Promo videos
Many Hands
Roles: Drummer, percussionist, dancer, singer, producer, publicist
Many Hands was a group of 50 creative artists and performers, with six drummers - myself included - at the core. The six of us met at an African drum class in 1993, and soon began performing shows with our teacher. After a while we decided to form our own band and Many Hands was born. We accomplished a great deal in the three years we were together, combining the drumming rhythms of the world in new and original ways. Find out more about Many Hands
